Kwaiback Fixed Blade MK3
Kwaiback
Fixed MK3
"Zero-Failure by design. We stripped the Kwaiback to its essential elements and rebuilt it for the modern world: a commitment to readiness."
00 // The Vision
To provide a "Zero-Failure" tool that maintains the iconic Kwaiken silhouette while offering the indestructible nature of a full-tang fixed blade. The Kwaiback has been through several iterations since 2010, starting with the first sword made by us. The MK3 represents the final refinement of the "pocket sword"—a hard-use tool stripped to its essential elements and rebuilt for the modern world.
01 // Anatomy of the Blade: Dual-Angle Bevels
Dual-Angle Compound Grind
Most knives use a single grind angle. The MK3 uses a specialized Compound Grind engineered for two specific tactical requirements:
The grind at the tip is 3.5° shallower (leaving significantly more steel behind the edge). This creates a reinforced "secondary" tip geometry designed for puncturing hard materials and heavy prying without risk of snapping the point.
Moving back toward the handle, the grind transitions to a 3.5° deeper angle, creating a razor-thin edge optimized for high-performance slicing, food prep, and fine utility work.
Material Science
CPM 20CV Stainless
We chose this "super steel" because it holds a working edge significantly longer than standard stainless steels while remaining nearly immune to corrosion in extreme field conditions.
Heat-treated to 59-61 HRC.
Blade Finish: Fallout Black.
02 // Ergonomic Engineering
The Hidden Palm Swell
There is a subtle increase in thickness in the rear of the grip. You don't see it from a side profile, but you feel it immediately when you close your hand. It fills the "void" at the back of the palm to prevent hand fatigue and slip during heavy use.
The Forward Guard
Integrated directly into the tang of the knife, ensuring your hand can never slide forward onto the edge during high-force thrusts or when the blade is slick with moisture.
Macro & Micro Texturing // Black G10
Large 3D CNC-machined scallops provide aggressive mechanical locks for the fingers, essential for cold weather or gloved use.
Fine CNC-milled lines create surface friction in wet, oily, or muddy conditions where standard grips typically fail.
03-04 // Hardware & Parts Ecosystem
Overbuilt Hardware
Heavy-duty stainless steel Torx hardware sized for maximum structural rigidity. Precision fitment with no "hot spots" or snag points. Designed for repeated disassembly, field stripping, and deep cleaning without failure.
Modular & Interchangeable
Precision-machined scales are interchangeable for customization (materials/colors) without professional fitting. Part of the larger Hoback Customs "Parts Ecosystem" with standardized components for long-term compatibility and future upgrades.
Universal Compatibility
Industry-standard hole spacing integrates seamlessly with DCC HLR Universal clips, Tek-Loks, and Ulti-Clips.
05 // The Sheath System
Proprietary Polymer Design
High-performance nylon-like polymer for durability and heat resistance. Symmetrical ambidextrous design for left/right-hand carry.
Advanced Features
User-adjustable tension screw for custom draw "snap". Bottom-mounted drain vents for rapid water/debris egress. MOLLE compatible.
Carry Clip
Discreet Carry Concepts Mod 4 (universal/height adjustable). Belt compatibility up to 1.75". Handle-up pocket or belt carry.
