Copied!Product Information & Technical Specs
We are committed to using only the best premium steels and materials available. The specific steel used for each knife is always listed on its product page, ensuring you know exactly what you're getting.
Copied! In simple terms, heat treatment is the crucial process of transforming soft steel into a hard, durable blade and then tempering it to remove brittleness. It's a precise science that unlocks the full potential of the steel. For a deep dive into our specific processes and rigorous testing, check out our official blog.
Copied! The Hoback Roller Detent (HRD) system provides an incredibly smooth and consistent opening and closing action. For a full breakdown of this innovation, please visit our official blog.
Copied! We use precision internal milling on our handles for strategic weight reduction. This makes the knife lighter and better balanced in the hand, enhancing its usability without compromising strength.
Copied! This depends on the specific model. Some of our designs are fully ambidextrous, while others are configured for right-handed use. Please check the specifications on the individual product page for details.
Copied! We break down the philosophy and craftsmanship behind each category in detail on our blog. Read the full story here: "25 Years of Craft: Why We're Redefining Production".
Copied!Absolutely. A knife finish is meant to wear, telling the story of its use. Every mark and sign of wear adds character and makes the tool uniquely yours. We build them to be used, so go put it to work!
Copied!Knife Care & Maintenance
Proper cleaning and maintenance are key to a lifetime of performance. We cover everything you need to know in detail on our official YouTube channel. Watch our tutorials here.
Copied! We recommend nearly any high-quality lubricant designed for bearings. Products like Nano-Oil work exceptionally well. From the factory, we apply machining way oil to ensure a smooth action right out of the box.
Copied! For a perfect tune, check out our detailed guide on the blog: "An Introduction to Centering Your Folding Knife." Yes, we recommend using a non-permanent thread-locker like Loctite on the pivot screw.
Copied! We sharpen every knife by hand—no fancy gizmos, just skilled craftsmanship. The result is a tough, reliable edge with a working angle of roughly 15 degrees per side (30 degrees inclusive).
Copied! We typically include a tool set with each knife. If that set goes on an adventure (or your cat decides it's a toy), most of our knives use a 1/16" hex for the HRD and a 3/32" hex for the pivot.
Copied! Please, clean your knives! Disassembly for cleaning will not void your warranty. We build our knives to be maintained. If you're hesitant, check out the step-by-step guides on our YouTube channel.
Copied!Warranty, Service & Repairs
Our lifetime warranty is comprehensive. Please see the official Warranty Information Page for complete details.
Copied! The entire process for submitting a knife for service is detailed on our Warranty Information Page.
Copied!Yes, we do. For services that fall outside of the warranty, such as spa treatments or blade replacements, please see our Precision Services Page for options and pricing.
Copied! The first step is always a full disassembly, cleaning, and re-lubrication. When reassembling, adjust the pivot tension to your preference and use a non-permanent Loctite on the HRD (if applicable) and pivot screw. Allow 30-40 minutes for the Loctite to set before use. For a visual guide, our YouTube channel has detailed tutorials.
Copied! We do! You can find a full selection of replacement parts, including pocket clips, screws, and bearings, on our Production Parts Page.
Copied!Behind the Design & Philosophy
Our design philosophy is born from a lifetime of hands-on experience in the outdoors, in the machine shop, and as end-users. With over two decades in business, we pour our passion and expertise into creating the best possible tools on the planet—tools designed to withstand the test of time and perform flawlessly right out of the box.
Copied! We test our designs in the real world, right here in the rugged terrain of Northern Idaho. Our 40-acre training facility and machine shop is surrounded by 8,000-foot peaks, -40° winters, and 100° summers. We take our tools into these wilds and test them until they break. Then we make them better. That's how we build the best tools on the planet.
Copied!Time, Quality, Materials, and Knowledge. When you buy a Hoback knife, you're investing in 25 years of knife-making expertise and 45 years of real-world experience betting our lives on our tools. They are worth every penny.
Copied! While we're flattered that our designs are popular enough to be counterfeited, we hate seeing our customers get tricked. Many of our models (including the Kwaiback, Buster, A10, and more) have been faked. The single best way to guarantee you are getting a genuine Hoback knife is to purchase directly from us or an authorized dealer. If a deal on a second-hand market seems too good to be true, it probably is. Please exercise extreme caution.
Copied! You must have bought someone else's knife! We simply don't ship knives with sticky locks. However, on the rare chance you encounter this, it's almost always a sign that the lock face is dirty and needs a simple cleaning.
Copied! It is your absolute responsibility to know and comply with all your local, state, and federal knife laws. While we believe any infringement on your rights is wrong, the legal responsibility is ultimately yours.
Copied!The Hoback Community
We attend shows occasionally, but lately, our family and production priorities have kept us closer to home. However, you are always welcome to make the trek to "Hobackistan" here in beautiful North Idaho for a visit!
