The Paradigm Shift of the Kwaiback Fixed Blade Mk3

Kwaiback Fixed Blade Mk3

I am constantly blown away by the support you all show for these wild projects, and the launch of the Kwaiback Fixed Blade Mk3 is no exception. Thank you for your incredible patience as we perfected this blade. The pre-order phase is always stressful due to my commitment to getting things just right, but I’m confident you’ll find this knife was worth every second of the wait.

The Mk3 isn't just an update; it's a monumental paradigm shift in how I approach fixed blade design. I want to pull back the curtain and share the Logical Order of Thinking (L.O.T.) that drove its two biggest innovations: the grind and the handle.

Innovation 1: A Compound Grind That Actually Works

The standout feature of the Mk3 is the compound grind, born from a desire to create something truly useful. While many of my fixed blades feature a Japanese-style tanto transition at the tip, I’ve always been critical of compound grinds that have a harsh, impeding transition line. It can make slicing tasks difficult.

With the Mk3, I made that a moot point.

I engineered the transition to be incredibly smooth, giving you the best of both worlds. The primary bevel is thin for exceptional, effortless slicing, while the tip remains thick and robust. This allows the 5/32" thick blade to have incredible cutting ability without sacrificing strength where it's needed most—the tip, which as we all know, is the first part to snap off under hard use!

Innovation 2: Strength Through Engineering

Now for the handle—honestly, this might be the coolest part. I've always loved the strength of a full-tang knife, but I wanted the ergonomic and design freedom of an enclosed handle. Could I have both?

Through extensive Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in my CAD program, I found the answer. I discovered a way to strategically machine the tang so the handle could cover it completely without sacrificing a single ounce of strength! Let me say that again: it's just as strong as the original full-tang Kwaiback fixed blade.

This breakthrough was a game-changer. The fully enclosed design allowed me to add aggressive texturing to the G10 handle and forward guard for a secure, locked-in grip. It also let me integrate a "hidden" feature: a subtle palm swell that aids in drawing the blade from its sheath and prevents it from slipping. It's a handle built for performance, perfected by science.
